Jer 31:3 “The Lord appeared to us in the past saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.”
Such a wonderful truth. It was my honour to bring the Word in Cardiff yesterday and I spoke on the love of God and very simply; ‘God Loves You.’ I’ll post some points from it in the next day or two. But for today I want to just mention this verse that I referred to yesterday…
It’s great to know that God has loved us with an everlasting love – a love that will always last, a love without end! Beautiful! Yet as I contemplated again on what that means to me it hit me that I had only ever really considered God’s everlasting love from the end-point. That is, I have always been thankful that it was a never-ending love.
This time however God opened my eyes to see that an everlasting love is also a love without beginning – a never-beginning love! A love with an everlasting beginning.
This is incredible! It shows us once and for all that God has always loved us. He didn’t suddenly one day decide to start loving us because that might mean we had some say or influence in the matter. We did not. God simply loves us, always has and always will – an everlasting love!
To know we are loved in this way has a huge effect on our lives! To know that we are always loved, always have been loved and always will be loved should take away doubt, despair and disbelief.
If we wake up every morning and know that God loves us and if we go to bed every night and know that God loves we; we can always reflect that whatever has happened between waking and sleeping has come from a Father’s heart of love towards us.
A Fathers love that will not let us be tempted beyond what we can stand. A Father’s love that is working all things together for the good of those who love and who are called according to His purpose. A Father’s love that promises even though you may have trials and troubles – fear not, for He has overcome the world, and we, in him and through him, are more than conquerors!
Todays encouragement then; know that you are loved and understand that the love God has for you is a thorough, sustained, uninterrupted and everlasting love….without beginning or end.
Glory to God!
