Great set of Proverbs this morning! Here's what Proverbs 23:23 says:
"Get the truth and don't ever sell it; also get wisdom, discipline, and discernment."
As a Christian I know the truth and the truth has set me free! That's great news. What is the truth? Well Jesus took this question upon himself and answered: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6) Jesus is the truth and the deepest meaning of GET THE TRUTH is to come to know Jesus Christ as your Lord.
I will never water that truth down. I will never deny that truth and I will never trade that truth for anything that sets itself up to be better or 'more-instant'.
I was glad to have read that Proverb this morning. This same morning I was driving to work and listening to the radio and the new idea that the government wants to have registered clinics where drug users can go and "safely inject themselves with heroine". I was sad. Now some of you will read it and think, 'well that sounds like a good idea, it will keep them safer from infection by providing a nurse and free sterilised needles, it will get the drugs off the streets…'
They're not bad points…..but how did we even get this far? How did society become so soft and compromising to all and everything that will give people a shot of whatever they need just to make it through until the next time – when did we sell the truth?
As Christians we have a call and a commission to be a voice in these areas. We must not be silent for to say nothing is to give silent consent to a world fast tracking its way to oblivion. We must speak. We must not sell the truth but instead share it – hold onto the truth of Jesus Christ for only then will the truth will set people free! (John 8:31-32).
Friends, don't sell the truth. Don't let the world beat you to bend the truth and lose your edge. There is right and there is wrong. There is light and there is darkness. We must not deal in grey areas but remain steadfast in the untainted truth of our Gospel. A half truth is a whole lie – don't sell out for anything. "Get the truth, get Christ and don't ever, ever sell it."
Today's encouragement: "I promise to live the truth, the whole truth and never sell the truth – so help me God."
