Fall on me…

I have a song going through my head. I’ve been singing it in the car and as I sit here before the work-day begins it’s still bouncing around in my mind. How many times do we hear songs that just go in one ear and out of the other? How many songs do we sing on a Sunday or a Wednesday night but never really consider everything that we are singing? I had to ask myself the same questions whilst singing this song this morning…The chorus of the song goes like this:

                           “Anointing, fall on me.

                            Anointing, fall on me.

                            Let the power of the Holy Ghost fall on me

                            Anointing fall on me.”

That’s it – simple melody, simple lyrics….but WHAT a profound ask!

It had gone through my head and passed my lips a number of times before I really realised what I was humming and singing. Let the anointing of God fall on me this day. Let the power of God so fill my life right now! It’s the anointing that breaks the yoke, it’s the power of the Holy Ghost that makes me a witness of Christ unto the ends of the earth! And I was just giving it lip service.

I just want to encourage you in your worship (note that I didn’t say on a Sunday morning) to really think about the words you express. Grab hold of them, think about them and if what you are singing or listening to is some watered down little ditty then get rid of it and start proclaiming the truth in worship that will bless God and set you free.

I want to leave you with two verses of a favourite hymn of mine: “And Can it be” by Charles Wesley

And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Saviour’s blood!
Died he for me who caused his pain!
For me who him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray;
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed thee.

    So right and so beautiful !!! Well said David .

  2. Nice post Dave. Our worship to God with songs really comes alive when the lyrics and wordings of the songs are coming from the depth of our heart- right from deep within us.

    Thank you for posting this…I was looking for the words to “anointing, fall on me” for a women’s retreat that we are doing worship for….and found this instead….blessed me 🙂

    i love the words to the second verse of “and can it be”…so profound, and so in keeping what the Lord was speaking at our worship at church resurrection sunday….the tremendous gift of God’s freedom and goodness…every day is RESURRECTION DAY in Jesus!
