Prayer for a friend…

Dear friends,

I received a phone call last night to say that a friend of mine was involved in a bad car accident and needed prayer. In that moment, and in praying with my wife, I again became aware that our God is a sovereign God, He is in control and we must trust him even when we don't understand why things happen. God is a good God and God is on His Throne!

I won't go into any details because that would not be right by him or his family but suffice to say, will you pray for my friend?

As I went to bed last night I recalled a word that I shared with my friend many years ago that I felt was to help him in his life. Please pray for my friend and if you don't know what to pray, please pray through this passage of scripture for him and his family:

"If you would prepare your heart and lift up your hands to him in prayer! Get rid of your sins and leave all iniquity behind you. Then your face will brighten in innocence. You will be strong and free of fear. You will forget your misery. It will all be gone like water under the bridge. Your life will be brighter than the noonday. Any darkness will be as bright as morning. You will have courage because you will have hope. You will be protected and will rest in safety. You will lie down unafraid, and many will look to you for help. 

Job 11:13-19 NLT

This is your life!

Do you remember the show 'This Is Your Life'? If you're 25 or over you probably will. It was the show when an unsuspecting celebrity was accosted by Eammon Andrews (and later David Nixon and then Michael Aspel) and drawn into a TV studio in front of an audience, and made to endure a public retelling of their life via 'surprise' guests who would churn up memories from their pre-celebrity lives. It was quite an institution of British television – who was it going to be this week? At the end of every show the celebrity was presented with the Big Red Book which was full of 'their life'….and that got me thinking yesterday as I was reading the big book all about my life…

Unknowing yet overflowing…

It's bank holiday Monday here in the UK and so Zoe, my beautiful wife, and I decided that it would be a great opportunity to get into that great British past-time; the garden! We moved  into our house December 2004 shortly after getting married, and at first it was all about the interior decorating – really it wasn't until last Autumn that we decided to make a go of the garden. Now I have a confession to make (my parents may be shocked to read on) but I am NOT a keen gardener. I like gardens don't get me wrong. But I like other peoples gardens or I like grassy areas where I can lie in the sun or play football or something….NOT the actual gardening. But I love my wife and so I thought to myself "yep, need to get on with that so out we go…."
